LAPS makes every effort to rehabilitate large animals surrendered to LAPS that have suffered abuse and neglect, in order that they can be adopted into responsible homes. They have careers ranging from pleasure driving, field hunters, show horses and trail horses to “babysitter” for another animal and just a pet to enjoy. We invite you to read many of the wonderful stories of animals LAPS has helped in our Case Histories section of this website.
If you are interested in giving one of these animals a new home, you must fill out and send to us LAPS Application for Adoption (PDF), complete LAPS’ adoption process described in the application, and sign an Adoption Contract. A minimal tax deductible adoption fee is required. The Adoption Contract is designed to ensure a good match and protect both you and the animal.
There is a 30-day trial period to make sure you have made the right choice. You may not breed, sell, barter, lease or otherwise dispose of the animal, but may return it to LAPS at any time for any reason. A Board Member will visit the animal annually, and LAPS is always available to answer any questions about its care. The Adoption Contract is designed to provide a lifetime safety net for animals that have come into our custody, and is STRICTLY enforced.
